Plasma Treatment of Polystyrene Films—Effect on Wettability and Surface Interactions with Au Nanoparticles

چکیده
Polystyrene (PS)/Gold (Au) is used for a wide range of applications, including composite nanofibers, catalysis, organic memory devices, and biosensing. In this work, PS films were deposited on silicon substrates via spin coating technique followed by treatment with argon (Ar) plasma admixed ammonia (NH3), oxygen (O2), or tetrafluoroethane (C2H2F4). X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis revealed modified surface chemistry Ar/O2, Ar/NH3, Ar/C2H2F4 through the incorporation oxygen, nitrogen, fluorine groups, respectively. Size-controlled magnetron sputter deposition Au nanoparticles (NP) onto these plasma-treated was investigated XPS AFM techniques. The interaction NPs, as probed from measurements, discussed referring to changes in morphology after treatment. results demonstrate effect NPs polymer support having different functionalities. show that significant resulted oxygen-containing species itself. concentration O increased 0.4% pristine 4.5 at%, 35.4 45.6 at% Ar/C2H4F4, water contact angle (WCA) values noticed decrease 98° untreated 95°, 37°, 15° Ar/C2H2F4, Ar/O2 plasma-modified samples, also accompanied change. Small islands are well dispersed cover surface, thus forming homogeneous, isotropic structure. reported important exploiting use catalysis sensing applications.

Surface Wettability Studies of PDMS using Flame Plasma Treatment
The flame plasma treatment studied in this thesis was able to oxidize the surface of Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) in a fraction of a second. It was found to be a much faster way to modify PDMS surface wettability than the current technologies. The surface wettability of Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) treated with flame plasma was studied. The surface wettability was characterized by contact angle m...
متن کاملElucidating the influence of materials-binding peptide sequence on Au surface interactions and colloidal stability of Au nanoparticles.
Peptide-mediated synthesis and assembly of nanostructures opens new routes to functional inorganic/organic hybrid materials. However, understanding of the many factors that influence the interaction of biomolecules, specifically peptides, with metal surfaces remains limited. Understanding of the relationship between peptide sequence and resulting binding affinity and configurations would allow ...

The method to modify the surface of polystyrene (PS) substrate for stable and versatile biomolecule immobilization was developed, which consists of two steps: 1) surface treatment by argon plasma irradiation to introduce hydroxyl group on PS and 2) covalent immobilization of vinylmethyleter-maleic acid copolymer (VEMAC) through a coupling reaction between hydroxyl group on plasma-irradiated PS ...
